💧 SGI Community Pack (SCP)

Water for Entire Communities

Enabling Food & Economic Security

What it’s about:

The SGI Community Pack brings water resilience to entire villages and community groups. Through the construction of small-to-medium-sized dams, combined with sustainable agriculture, aquaculture, tree planting, and financial training, the Pack enables entire communities to improve food security, diversify livelihoods, restore ecosystems, and build long-term resilience.

Key Features

1
1-10 Million m³ Dams
Community dams ranging from 1 to 10 million cubic meters are constructed and managed locally, providing year-round water for domestic use, irrigation, aquaculture, and ecosystem restoration. Designed for sustainability, these dams empower communities to take control of their water resources and support multi-sectoral benefits.
2
Fish Farming
Using water from community dams, fishponds are established and stocked with high-value fish species. Managed by community groups or cooperatives, these ponds provide nutritious food, create local income streams, and enhance household protein intake—while strengthening collective entrepreneurship.
3
Small-scale Irrigation
Solar-powered or gravity-fed irrigation systems enable community members to cultivate vegetables, fruits, and staple crops on a consistent basis. Irrigation allows year-round farming, increases yields, stabilizes household food security, and boosts incomes through the sale of surplus produce.
4
Azolla Farming
Azolla is a fast-growing, protein-rich aquatic plant cultivated in community ponds. Used as livestock and fish feed, azolla reduces reliance on expensive commercial feeds, supports sustainable animal husbandry, and contributes to circular local economies.
5
Tree Nurseries
Community-operated nurseries produce native and climate-resilient tree seedlings for both commercial and environmental restoration purposes. Planted around dams, farms, and communal spaces, these trees help regenerate degraded land, sequester carbon, and improve local microclimates.
6
Financial Literacy Training
Communities participating in the SCP receive targeted financial literacy training covering savings, microcredit, cooperative management, and agribusiness. This equips members to manage their resources more effectively, grow household incomes, and foster collective financial resilience.
